Herreid Livestock Market market report — October 23, 2026
Herreid, SD · Friday sale · USDA report published 10/23/2026 · Sale days
Last year 2,071
vs last week +18.49
vs last week +7.34
Compared to last week: yearling steers 850 to 949 lbs mostly steady, 1000 to 1049 lbs 6.00 to 10.00 higher, all on a narrow comparison. Best test on heifers 850 to 899 lbs 6.00 to 10.00 higher, 900 to 949 lbs mostly steady. No price trend available on calves. Good to very good demand for yearlings. The majority of the yearling offering came off grass in loads and strings with a handful of loads of lot cattle to round things out. Similar to last week, quality varied quite a bit, from plain to attractive. Flesh ran from light to moderate plus on grass cattle, yard cattle in moderate plus to heavy flesh. A handful of calves in today's offering were met with moderate demand at best. All calves were off the cow and sold in packages and most had no shots. An active market on yearlings, moderate on calves. Farmers are busy in the fields and corn harvest is progressing rapidly. Next week will bring much cooler weather and a chance for moisture. Next feeder cattle sale is Friday, October 30.
